What is a 301 Redirect, and how does it work?

A redirect is a basic method of diverting traffic from a Requested URL to a different Destination URL.

A 301 redirect signals that the requested page has been permanently transferred to the Destination URL, and it aids in the search engine friendly transmission of traffic from the Requested URLs. A 301 redirect informs search engines that the Requested URL has permanently relocated and that the content is now available at the Destination URL. The fact that search engines would convey any clout the Requested URL used to have to the Destination URL is an essential aspect.
